progression of PD

Symptoms of Parkinson's usually begin slowly, develop gradually and in no particular order.

Everyone with Parkinson's is very different and may have a different collection of symptoms and response to treatment.

The nature and severity of symptoms and the rate at which the condition progresses will also be individual. The symptoms may take years to progress.

However, since Parkinson's is a progressive condition, symptoms will worsen over
time and new ones may appear. It is difficult to estimate how quickly or slowly Parkinson's
will progress in each person. It may progress more quickly in people who are older when the
symptoms first begin.

Currently, there is no cure for Parkinson's. However, many of the motor symptoms can be
treated with medications. Medications used to treat the symptoms either replace the lost
dopamine or mimic the action of dopamine in the brain. Medications can alleviate the symptoms,
but do not slow the progression of Parkinson's. As the symptoms change, medications will need
to be adjusted

complication of PD

Parkinson's disease is often accompanied by these additional problems:

■Depression. Depression is common in people with Parkinson's disease. Receiving treatment for depression can make it easier to handle the other challenges of Parkinson's disease.
■Sleep problems. People with Parkinson's disease often have trouble falling asleep and may wake up frequently throughout the night. They may also experience sudden sleep onset, called sleep attacks, during the day.
■Difficulty chewing and swallowing. The muscles you use to swallow may be affected in the later stages of the disease, making eating more difficult.
■Urinary problems. Parkinson's disease may cause either urinary incontinence or urine retention. Certain medications used to treat Parkinson's also can make it difficult to urinate.
■Constipation. Many people with Parkinson's disease develop constipation because the digestive tract works more slowly. Constipation may also be a side effect of medications used to treat the disease.
■Sexual dysfunction. Some people with Parkinson's disease may notice a decrease in sexual desire. This may stem from a combination of psychological and physical factors, or it may be the result of physical factors alone.
Medications for Parkinson's disease also may cause a number of complications, including involuntary twitching or jerking movements of the arms or legs, hallucinations, sleepiness, and a drop in blood pressure when standing up.

early onset of PD progression

It is difficulty to interpret what and how the symptoms of early onset-slower progression?

As PD is a bouquet disease and is individual that have motor and non motor symptoms.

They do not come at the same time or together it is individual and the timing is different too.

As for me my PD is genetic/inherited as I have two brothers are PD. They are at the rate of three and four of PD and are at fast progression. They are at the age of 56 and 76 years old.

I have the symptoms of PD when I was at younger age.

I was diagnosed at the age of 65 years old as PD

Due to my determination and perservation and knowledge of the disease and medication I learn to fight the disease to slowdown from its progression. I am lucky by Lord grace I manage to slowdown my motor symptoms by strenous exercises however I still have non motor symptoms I pray the Lord for wisdom to be able to overcome early. How often do your share your PD?

They are not interested unless they are PD sufferers.

Therefore I am selective to share with them.

I hate to be told that I am not a doctor and how I know so much?

Mental decline, Impulsive behavior

According to website MayoClinic.com, which offers tons of advice on mental and physical health related issues, impulsive behavior disorder is associated with two common misbehaviors, inattention and hyperactivity.

Inattention behavior includes; lack of ability to focus, regular instances of unreasonable distraction, unorganized conduct in thoughts and actions, resistance in putting forth effort, and irrational absentmindedness. While these are all typical behaviors that all children will present if they interfere with everyday life it could be considered an impulsive behavior disorder.
Hyperactivity behavior includes; continuous restlessness, inability to follow through when instructed, reckless activity which happens regularly, constant attention seeking by being loud and outrageous, impatience even during short time periods, and unawareness of common manners. As with inattention behaviors these signs individually are to be expected, but when excessive can lead to greater problems.

unsteadiness

Some patients do not notice early symptoms of the disease until all at once when they try to walk. Some patients initially end up taking on a type of stance or posture called the Parkinson's Gait. This is a type of unsteadiness and clumsiness that occurs when walking or standing. The body may lean forward or backward or may be hunched over. The patient may be forced to take small steps in a shuffling motion in order to reach their destination

Other people do more, wife says

Posted on May 10th, 2010 by heroteo
must be blessed with my wife. Her care and concern for me has always been there and is even more so since I have the PD.

I do exercises in the gym centre daily in between 2 to three hours and surf internet PLM in the late afternoon. I have to strengthen my body and with knowledge to fight the disease.

With her it’s always the opposite..”you’re doing too much”. She’s normaly correct and it catches up with me at the end of the day. My neuro tells her to let me do what I can and so I do, but sometimes too much. As worrier mentioned, ‘PD is a thief’ and I’m going to do as much as I can to ’use it’ before it’s gone

Tips for staying up to date on PatientsLikeMe!

It is not enough. PLM should help to be displayed : entry and reporting of medical prescription, its sideeffects, and interactions with parkinson's and other illness.

As some patients have other illness and have interactions/sideeffects with Parkinson's. Some doctors do not have knowledges as they specialise only their own field. Therefore knowledge is power. PLM is a forum for us to share the experiences, understanding the symptoms, treatments, issues, problems: entry and reporting sideeffects, interactions with medications on illness. Evaluate the effectiveness of different drugs and how well the medication is working as well as other illness.

PLM is a record of history of patients how the illness come to them. It is the performance appraisal how well the illness working.

Why did you join, and why do you use PLM?

The reasons why I join the PLM Forum because I wanted to tell the world how I fight my Parkinson's disease and hopefully send a message to the readers that there are people suffering from Parkinson disease ("PD") who need public awareness of the existence of PD and the effects physically, emotionally and mentally. With this PLM Forum, I hope to help PD patients to understand the disease and let them know that they are not alone.PD sufferers have movement disorders which could be misdiagnosed or misunderstood as effects of ageing. This misdiagnosis or misunderstanding can be unfortunate for PD patients as PD is a progressive disease whereby early treatment would slowdown the progression of the disease. There are also patients who are reluctant to accept they have PD when they are diagnosed by doctors as they consider themselves suffering from the effect of ageingAs far as I am aware, 2% of the world's population above the age of 60 years are PD sufferers . There are also a small percentage of younger persons who also develop the disease. There are 3 out of 1000 people age 50 and above suffering from this disorder. This number is likely to increase as the population ages.Besides, PD does not have any social, ethnic, economic or geographic boundaries either.I hope that my blog would share my experience on how I cope with PD and to counter /slowdown the degenerative effects of the disease. There are effective medication for the symptoms and patients who seek earlier treatment can continue to lead independent and fruitful lives.Exercise is also essential to the PD sufferer because of the need to maintain good muscle tone, strength and posture.

PLM forum has no boundary between country to country and the limit of what is acceptable or thought to be possible. It is a world organization consisting medical teams, businessmen who are generously give in kind and enjoy giving knowledges, times helping PD sufferers to aware the illness and mean and end to help them.
