VIsion Problem with PD

Wed Apr 18, 2007 9:35 am Post subject: vision problems

I have worn bifocal glasses for several years. Over time I have my prescription changed when I notice a change in my vision.

As an accountant, I work with numbers all day and have noticed that I'm having trouble focusing and the numbers are bleary but no double vision.

With PD, how do you know whether to see a normal opthamologist for a prescription change or when to see a neuro-opthamologist?

How do you find a neuro-opthamologist as I assume that is a very specialty practice?

You can ask your neurologist about where to find a neuroophtalmologist. Also, they are more likely to be find in a academic center. Patients with PD may suffer from convergence insufficiency, causing some visual problems. Your ophtalmologist may help with this._________________Ramon L Rodriguez, MD

Dear Dr. Rodriguez,

In view of the Vision Problems with PD I wish to find out from you why some PD patients prefer to use mircoscope to read than glasses?

Why some PD patients have difficulties to drive at night?

Why they see red are clearer than the green colours ?

Are all problems related with PD? Kindly brief?

Thanks TEO KIM HOE

Teo.

PD patients may have problems where the eyes do not work together called convergence insufficiency, they may have trouble recognizing contrast in colors, they may get dry eyes, and their lids may force shut (blepharospasm). It is not known exactly why each of these occur but the combination of a neurologist/ophthalmologist may be useful to choose treatment._________________Michael S. Okun, M.D.
